This does not represent official sumo wrestling rules nor Japanese culture but it is a competitive group self defense exercise training method inspired by sumo wrestling
I am making up these rules as a way to modify competitive sumo wrestling in order to teach skills for self defense against multiple attackers. I do not know if anyone else made up rules like this before.
Three people will enter the ring and two people will fight on the same team against a third person but they will spar three different times and each time the team will change.
Round 1
Person A alone spars against the team of person B and person C
Round 2
Person B alone spars against person A and person C
Round 3
Person C alone spats against person A and person B
Each person can be defeated in a round the same way as in regular sumo by having anything other than the foot touch the ground, by being forced outside the circle or boundary or by disrobement.
Or alternatively the outfit and rules can be changed to remove the disrobement rule but keep the other two rules and people can wear something closer to wrestling uniforms such as the style in high school wtestling not WWE wrestling.
It maybe possibly desirable to use a different shape or size of boundary than used in traditional sumo that is larger since three people are participating
The round can start with a visual and auditory signal visible by all three players as opposed to when both hands of all players touch the ground at the same time
The winner will be determined by points except in the event of a tie in which case the winner will be determined by time
In the event that one player on the team of two is defeated by the player on the team of one and the other one has not yet been defeated he will resume playing but his points and time will be modified as described below
For each individual round points and time are determined the following way
If one person on the team of two is defeated by the person on the team of one they will not discontinue playing and will receive 0.5 points if the person on the team of one is defeated and 0 points if the person on the team of one is not defeated, they will receive full time for the time until they were defeated plus half the time for the remaining time until the round ends when either of the other two players is defeated. If the person on the team of one is defeated then the person on the team of two who was undefeated will receive 1 point and full time for the entire round. If the person on the team of one defeats both of them he will receive 2 points and full time for the entire round and the person who was defeated last will receive 0 points and full time for the entire round and the person who was defeated first will receive 0 points and full time for the time until he was defeated plus half the remaining time until both people are defeated.
If both people on the team of two are not defeated then the person on the team of one who was defeated by both people on the team of two will receive 0 points and full time for that entire round and the people on the team of two will each individually receive 1 point and no time or 0 seconds for that entire round
The time each individual receives for all three rounds is added together and in the event of a tie by points the person who receives the highest total time among the set of individuals who are tied receives a better place in the competition.
If one individual receives first place by points and the other two are tied the person with the higher total time will receive second place and the person with the lower total time will receive third place with the time for the first place person ignored
If one individual receives third place by points and the other two are tied. The person with the higher time will receive first place and the lower time will receive second place with the time fir the third place person ignored.
If all three individuals are tied for points then the person with the highest total time will receive first place and the person with the lowest total time will receive third place and the other individual will receive second place.
