Tag basketball

I do not like playing basketball because it is very common to let the rules slide to hit people but there is no clear cut rules for how you may or may not attack people like in wrestling (not wwe but high school or college wrestling style), judo or boxing, etc.

I think a better solution would be to make it a contact sport with rules about contact like NFL tackle football or to make it tag like tag football.  If someone could merely eliminate someone with the ball by tagging them that would lesson the incentive to try to prevent them from scoring a point by throwing the basketball through the hoop through more dangerous methods that might be more difficult like jumping in front of them when they try to shoot a basket in such a way that a collision with their body is almost guaranteed unless you undo your action.  I find this forward rather than vertical jump to try to block a shot very annoying because it could easily be solved by hitting the person who is jumping toward you but if you do this you will get a foul even though they are fouling you because if you continue your action they would hit you with their body since they are not jumping vertical but vertical and towards you trying to put them armpit in your face instead of really going for the basketball but it looks like they are going to block the basketball if they were allowed to simply tag you they could prevent the shot with less effort and it would reduce incentive to let the rules slide in a display of massive stupidity.

Tackle basketball would also be more enjoyable but it may not work well because a hard wooden surface is used for dribbling unlike American football that is often played on a grassy turf.  Some Judo studios use a very hard mat with layers below it to make it springy and this type of surface might work for dribbling while also allowing full contact although I suspect it would result in abrasions from sliding on the surface when someone is tackled as I suspect a regular soft mat might not work for dribbling.

This type of basketball court might be much more  expensive but also more entertaining and fun.  Another alternative would be to not require  dribbling and make it much more like tackle football except at the end you can only score a point by shooting the ball through a hoop but you can run while holding the ball without dribbling, this would have a basketball hoop but be on grass turf and again require different equipment.

Considering the cost of equipment and the safety factor tag basketball would be cheaper than contact basketball or standard basketball where fouls are secretly allowed by social convention.  Tag basketball might require a faster game with shooting and passing being done more quickly to avoid being tagged.

Someone might have already made rules for such a thing if so you can post about it in the comments
